Manage Servers is an area which shows all of the available Virtual Machines that are accessible via the logged on account. This article explains how to navigate around this screen and what each of the items on it mean.
1. Access the Manage Servers screen from the menu on the left in CLOUD TOGGLE:
2. At the top of the screen, above the table which displays all of the virtual machines, there are three drop-down boxes to allow filtering of the items displayed in the table; All States, All Cloud Connections and All Locations:
- All States - This drop-down box allows the filtering of VM's based on the state they are in. The following states can be selected, and are each described as follows:
- All States - displays virtual machines in any state that they are in
- On - displays only the VM's that are powered on
- Off/Parked - displays only the VM's that are powered off/deallocated
- Starting - displays VM's that are in the state of starting, or powering on
- Stopping - displays VM's that are in the process of shutting down
- Failed - displays a list of VM's where the status is failed, meaning that the previous action performed on the VM did not succeed. E.g. a power off/park command was issued but this failed to complete
- Unknown - displays a list of VM's where their status is Unknown. This means that the status of the VM can not be determined.
- All Cloud Connections - This drop-down box allows the filtering of VM's based on the cloud connection they are a member of. Either All Cloud Connections can be selected, which will show all of the VM's in all cloud connections, or another cloud connection can be selected (if there are more than one cloud connections on the CLOUD TOGGLE account), which will show only the VM's that are a member of that particular cloud connection. NOTE: A cloud connection is a connection to a tenant or subscription in a cloud provider that will pull in and display all of the virtual machines which exist in that tenant or subscription.
- All Locations - This drop-down box contains a list of all of the regions where VM's in the cloud connection/s exist. If All Locations is selected then it will display VM's from all regions. To display VM's in only a particular region, click on the drop-down box and select the desired region.
3. Refresh Statuses. The Refresh Statuses button can be used if there are virtual machines that have 'unknown' or 'failed' statuses which may have been resolved. Clicking this will poll the cloud account(s) again and request up-to-date statuses for all the VM's. Using this can help clear 'unknown' or 'failed' statuses against VM's.
4. The Manage Servers table. This contains a list of the VM's that are a member of all the cloud connections (unless the filter has been used, as described previously).
The following columns are in the table:
- Name - the name of the virtual machine
- State - the state that the VM is in. Sates are described in point 2 in this article, above
- Schedule - denotes whether or not there is a schedule attached to the VM. If there is no schedule attached the icon will be greyed out. If there is a schedule attached then the icon will be blue with a green check mark, and this will then be clickable, allowing the schedule to be viewed
- Team(s) - if the VM is not controlled by a team then the icon will be greyed out. If one or more teams can control the VM the icon will be blue, and be clickable, allowing the team(s) to be viewed:
- Cloud Connection - this displays the cloud connection that the virtual machine belongs to
- Location - the location or region that the VM is in
- OS - displays the operating system of the VM and the icon associated with it
- Type - where possible, the type or size of the VM is displayed
5. At the bottom of the screen under the Manage Servers table there is the option to change how many VM's are displayed in the table. This is set to 20 by default.
If there are multiple pages of VM's, clicking on the arrows allows paging through them, or the drop-down box can be used to jump to a particular page:
